Curling?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Well, I have  so been enjoying the Olympic games,  that is all except one….you got it, “Curling?”

I did watch it for a while, but for the life of me, I just don’t get it. I don’t get the point of the game, I don’t understand the technique, what does that movement by two people on the ice do to that ..”thing?” What is that “thing” called, what is  that “thing” supposed to do??? Where did this game come from and when, and as I said I just don’t get it, nor do I like it ….I guess that’s because as I said  ….huh?  It must be a Canadian thing, they won the gold.  Good luck to them , they can keep this one.

Alexander McQueen

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I am so sad about the premature death of Alexander McQueen.  This man who finally became the darling of the fahion world, who seemingly had no where to go but up, apparently took his own life.  He was only 40 years old.  Seems he nipped his life in the bud.  Goes to show that no  matter what it looks like, one never knows someone else’s  journey.  I for one never loved his clothes, but respect his individuality and creativity.

What a shame and loss for those  that loved him and of course the rest of us fashionistas…

Bad Fashion

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I admit it,  I am totally and hopelessly addicted to fashion.  But I am  an old school kind of girl.  My idea of fashion has little to do with trend and everything to do with style.  Style, that undefinable “je ne sais quoi, ” the  inate ability to know what suits us and what doesn’t.  I am horrified on a daily basis by how many people wear clothing that they have no right to even own! Wrong proportion, wrong  color etc etc..  Finally, my aha moment.  Looking in the windows of an upscale 5th Avenue Department Store there it was…window after window of bad clothes.  Clothes  that didn’t even look good on mannequins  being validated by a  fancy retailer. What’s a girl to do??? How to guide those in need…let me think about this and report back…

So much to talk about so little time…

Who’s more outrageous, John Edwards or Tiger Woods?
I know I am a bit behind on this “breaking news” but I
can’t let my thoughts go unsaid. For me, John Edwards
is the MOST disappointing lying human being. How many
times does he think he can deny something and then
admit it? This man, this spineless, gutless, dishonest,
unethical, narcissist could have been our president.
As for Tiger, to my way of thinking he has serious
problems, and btw, that doesn’t make him any less
of a jerk.

CELEBRITY OVERLOAD REVISITED

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

With reference to last entry…the correct name of the
book I referred to is “The Private Lives of Yves St
Laurent and Pierre Berge”  If you are a fan, an artist,
a fashionista or someone who loves to look into the
minds of genius you’ll love it.

CELEBRITY OVERLOAD

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I just received the most wonderful and beautiful book about  Yves St Laurent, as told by Pierre Berge, his life and business partner.   It is a pictorial of YSL’s beautiful homes, as well as a look into the mentality of the designer.  YSL was a man who couldn’t help but design; he was beyond  passionate about his craft, he was obsessive, if you will, he was a visionary, a genius.  Reading his story evoked nostalgia about the way it was.

Well,  I just read that Sarah Jessica Parker (aka SJP) was just named Pres and Artistic Director of Halston.  Now, I am a fan of SJP,  I think she has great style, she looks great in clothes and I am a HUGE fan of  Sex in the City.  But how does she qualify  for this job ? The likes of YSL, Dior, Emanuel Ungaro, Chanel, Valentino, et al , didn’t have any other career.  They were 100% committed to their art.  They didn’t act, produce, direct, licence their names…they were  artists who lived and breathed their work.  I love fashion, and have been around long enough to remember when fashion designers were revered.  Now, I guess it takes celebrity to fuel interest.   Is this an, if “Lindsay Lohan can do it so can SJP?”  What  has celebrity to do with designing??? Oh, BTW, Julia Roberts has  just been named the face of Lancome…Call me crazy, but I don’t get it.

Let’s bring back the Brad Pitt topic for a moment here, apparently I am not the only one who has an opinion about Pitt’s mountainous facial hair.
According to www.movies.com (Worst Celebrity Facial Hair of 2009 – Brad Pitt), they also have something to say: For reasons that still aren’t clear to me, 2009 became the year that Brad Pitt decided to grow the ugliest chin-beard known to man. That thing became so raunchy he even decided to braid it and hang little beads in there. It was kinda reminiscent of a 100-year-old miniature Christmas tree that had rotted away decades ago. Dude needs a shave, like, yesterday. (http://www.movies.com/movie-news/celebrity-gossip/the-worst-of-2009-part-1/20091224)

This woman is the artistic director of the couture house of Emanuel Ungaro?

Lindsay-Lohan-Ungaro-5

Several months ago, I was totally horrified when I learned the President Mounir Moufarrige, of the famed couture house Emanuel Ungaro appointed…are you ready…none other than party girl extraordinaire, Lindsay Lohan as artistic director.  Well, as an old school kind of girl, who always had great respect and adoration for the couture houses, I was, as you can imagine incredulous about this.  The latest from this company is that they have parted ways with their president Moufarrige, but, you guessed it, are keeping Lindsay Lohan on as artistic director.  Who cares that her first show was a total disaster, or that her partying ways are becoming more and more infamous…what are we coming to is this the ode to any publicity is better than no publicity???
